Obama's day: Teacher of the Year
President Obama spends Wednesday honoring educators and wounded warriors.
In the late morning, Obama hosts a White House ceremony for the 2015 National Teacher of the Year and finalists.
This year's top educator is Shanna Peeples of Amarillo, Tex., a high school English teacher who works with impoverished immigrant students.
In hosting the ceremony, Obama wants to thank all the teachers "for their hard work and dedication each and every day in the classroom," the White House schedule says. "Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will also attend."
At mid-day, Obama discusses congressional legislative strategy in a meeting with House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi.
Obama ends the day by making one of his periodic visits with wounded service members at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md.
