Obama whacks Fox News over poverty coverage

President Obama used an anti-poverty summit Tuesday to work on one of his favorite punching bags: Fox News.

Obama cited the network while arguing that some conservatives dismiss poor people as lazy "sponges" who are "leeches" on society.

"I have to say that if you watch Fox News on a regular basis, it is a constant menu," Obama told the forum at Georgetown University. "They will find folks who make me mad."

The president added: "I don't know where they find them ... They're like, 'I don't want to work, I just want a free Obama phone,' or whatever. And that becomes an entire narrative, right? That gets worked up."

Fox News rarely interviews a worker "who's raising a couple of kids and is doing everything right, but still can't pay the bills," said Obama, a frequent critic of the network.

People who work at Fox denied any kind of bias, and suggested that the president seems a little too concerned about their content.

"I think Fox ought to run a full-page ad welcoming Obama into the viewership of the number one network," said commentator Charles Krauthammer. "He should be proud of us."

Fox anchor Bret Baier said: "He does seem to have us on his mind a lot."
