Obama's day: Overseas visitors
President Obama welcomes visitors from overseas Monday while pondering the fate of counter-terrorism surveillance programs.
In the morning, Obama meets with their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands for a meeting in the Oval Office.
The royal visit "reinforces the strong and enduring ties between the United States and the Netherlands that reach back more than 400 years," says the White House schedule.
In the afternoon, Obama meets with a group of 75 up-and-comers from Asia, part of the new Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative. Topics include "civic engagement, environment and natural resources management and entrepreneurship," the White House says.
In the meantime, the Obama administration will be adjusting to the loss of counter-terrorism surveillance powers that expired at midnight when the Senate was unable to renew them.
Lawmakers are expected to approve new National Security Agency authorities later this week when their main opponent -- Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky. -- runs out of required debate time.
