Israeli official's wife sorry for Obama joke
The wife of an Israeli official is apologizing for a racially-tinged joke about President Obama.
The joke: "Do you know what Obama coffee is? Black and weak."
Judy Shalom Nir-Mozes, who is married to Israeli Vice Prime Minister and Interior Minister Silvan Shalom, deleted the tweet after criticism on social media.
Apologizing for the "stupid joke somebody told me," Nir-Mozes later tweeted: "President Obama I shouldn't have written the inappropriate joke I heard. I like people no matter about their race and religion."
The incident occurred amid tense relations between the Obama administration and the Israeli government.
From The Washington Post:
"Nir-Mozes' tweet came during continuing tensions between Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as the two countries continue to grapple with the Palestinian peace process and Iran's nuclear ambitions. Nir-Mozes' husband was appointed by Netanyahu last month to lead peace negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians and oversee strategic dialogue with the U.S."
