Obama's day: Islamic State update
President Obama spends Monday working on national security and economic challenges from overseas.
In the mid-afternoon, Obama travels to the Pentagon for a meeting with his national security team about "the campaign to degrade and ultimately defeat" the Islamic State.
Also known as ISIS or ISIL, the Islamic State continues to occupy land in Iraq and Syria, and is encouraging followers to stage attacks in other countries, including the United States.
Throughout the day, Obama and aides will also deal with foreign policy challenges involving Greece and Iran.
Greece's referendum rejection of a European plan to accept more austerity in exchange for a bailout of its bankrupt economy figures to roil markets worldwide.
The Obama administration is also trying to nail down the details of a nuclear agreement with Iran, and faces a Tuesday deadline.
