Obama's day: The president of Nigeria
President Obama opens a week devoted largely to Africa issues by meeting Monday with the president of Nigeria.
In his sit-down with President Muhammadu Buhari, Obama plans to stress "our commitment to strengthening and expanding our partnership with Nigeria's new government, and our support for the Nigerian people following their historic democratic elections and peaceful transfer of power," says the White House.
The two leaders will also discuss the fight against the Islamic extremist group Boko Haram.
Nigeria is Africa's largest economy, but is struggling because of the decline in oil prices, the impact of terrorism, and government corruption.
Later this week, Obama begins a trip to Kenya and Ethiopia that also emphasizes development of Africa's economy.
Also on Monday, Obama pays tribute to a legislative landmark: He will address a White House reception for the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
