Obama's day: Arts and humanities

President Obama spends Thursday selling the Iran nuclear deal and honoring excellence in arts and humanities.

The Iran agreement is the subject of a morning presidential meeting with a group of veterans and Gold Star Mothers.

The meeting comes days after the White House secured support from enough Democratic members of Congress to uphold the deal in which the U.S. and allies reduce sanctions on Iran as it gives up the means to make nuclear weapons.

In the afternoon, Obama awards the National Medal of Arts and the National Humanities Medal to 18 people and three institutions.

Among the recipients: Oscar-winning actress Sally Fields, and writers Stephen King, Annie Dillard, Larry McMurtry, and Jhumpa Lahiri.

Also on Obama's schedule: A conference call with Rabbis for Rosh Hashanah.
