Obama's day: Prepping for a big week
President Obama has no public events on his schedule Monday as he prepares for meetings this week with two major world leaders: Pope Francis and China President Xi Jinping.
The president, first lady Michelle Obama, and Vice President Biden will be on hand late Tuesday to greet the pope when he lands at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.
Pope Francis visits the White House on Wednesday for a formal welcoming ceremony and a meeting with the president on a variety of items.
"These issues include caring for the marginalized and the poor; advancing economic opportunity for all; serving as good stewards of the environment; protecting religious minorities and promoting religious freedom around the world; and welcoming and integrating immigrants and refugees into our communities," says the White House schedule.
Xi visits the White House for a private dinner Thursday and a formal meeting with Obama on Friday.
Topics include cybersecurity, allegations that China has hacked U.S. computer systems, Chinese military ambitions in the South China Sea, and climate change.
"President Xi's visit will present an opportunity to expand U.S.-China cooperation on a range of global, regional, and bilateral issues of mutual interest, while also enabling President Obama and President Xi to address areas of disagreement constructively," the White House says.
