Obama's day: Greeting the Pope
President Obama works behind the scenes Tuesday as he prepares to welcome Pope Francis to the United States.
In the late afternoon, the president and first lady Michelle Obama travel to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland to greet the pope as he arrives from his trip to Cuba.
Also attending the pope's arrival: Vice President Biden and wife Jill.
No other presidential events are scheduled for Tuesday.
Obama and Pope Francis are scheduled to hold a formal meeting at the White House on Wednesday, discussing topics ranging from climate change to human rights across the world.
The White House says the agenda includes "caring for the marginalized and the poor; advancing economic opportunity for all; serving as good stewards of the environment; protecting religious minorities and promoting religious freedom around the world; and welcoming and integrating immigrants and refugees into our communities."
