Obama cracks 1,000 barrier on bills signed
As President Obama signed a bill funding the government for another 10 weeks, he also passed a personal milestone: more than 1,000 bill signs since taking office in 2009.
The bill designed to avoid a government shutdown — one of seven Obama signed on Wednesday — puts the president's total number of signings at 1,003, according to Mark Knoller of CBS News.
Of all these bills, only 50 were signed at public ceremonies with press coverage, according to Knoller, an unofficial White House historian.
At least six of the bills were signed by autopen, noted Knoller, a critic of that practice.
One other Knoller tid-bit: Of the more than 1,000 bills Obama has signed, 134 named or re-named U.S. Post Offices.
