Obama's day: A summit on workers

The future of American workers is Wednesday's main topic for President Obama.

In the afternoon, Obama addresses a White House "Summit on Worker Voice," an event designed to bring together workers, union leaders, worker advocates, and business owners.

The goal is "to explore ways to ensure that working Americans are fully sharing in the benefits of the broad-based economic growth that they are helping to create," says the White House schedule.

Later in the day, Obama will participate in a public conversation with workers and organizers.

Co-hosted by Coworker.org, the president and his guests will discuss "how we can energize a new generation of Americans to come together and recognize the potential power of their voice at work," the White House says.

It adds that "this closing dialogue will include questions and stories from both participants in the room, and workers and organizers from around the country, via the Coworker.org platform."

Also on Obama's schedule Wednesday: A morning meeting with President Joachim Gauck of Germany.

The visit marks "the 25th anniversary of German reunification and underscore the abiding friendship and partnership between the United States and Germany," says the White House.

Obama also has a mid-afternoon meeting with Secretary of State John Kerry.
