Obama's day: Climate change and astronomy

It's a science kind of Monday for President Obama, who hosts one event on climate change and another on astronomy.

In the morning, Obama meets with a group of CEOs "to discuss efforts to tackle climate change both in the United States as well as on a global scale," says the White House schedule.

The discussion includes new technologies that can reduce carbon pollution. The meeting is also part of Obama's ongoing campaign to build support for a global climate change agreement.

In the evening, Obama will speak at the second White House Astronomy Night, designed to promote science and technology education.

The event brings together "students, teachers, scientists, astronauts and others to spend an evening stargazing," the schedule says. "Participants will also learn about astronomical discoveries and participate in space-related educational activities."

Also on Obama's schedule: An afternoon meeting with Treasury Secretary Jack Lew. One of their likely topics is the debt ceiling, which will soon be breached without a congressional extension.
