Obama to honor U.S. women's World Cup team

President Obama welcomes world champions to the White House next week.

Members of the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team visit Obama on Tuesday to celebrate the World Cup title they won earlier this year.

"This visit will continue the tradition begun by President Obama of honoring sports teams for their efforts to give back to their communities," the White House said.

The president extended the invitation during a call to team members after their championship game win over Japan.

Obama said the team displayed "the strength and spirit that makes our country great -- in front of the largest soccer audience in American TV history," the White House said.
