White House press secretary: Good-luck charm for sports teams?

White House press secretary Josh Earnest is basking in the glow of the Kansas City Royals' World Series championship — and he is only the latest presidential spokesman to celebrate a sports title.

Earnest's predecessor, Jay Carney, wore a Boston Red Sox cap into the White House press room after his team won the World Series in 2013.

The press secretary before him, Robert Gibbs, proudly displayed an Auburn sweatshirt as his Tigers won the college football title game in early 2011.

During the George W. Bush administration, press secretary Scott McClellan celebrated as his University of Texas Longhorns won the college football championship game in 2006.

In celebrating the latest title, Earnest wore a Royals cap Monday while strolling to Marine One for a presidential trip; on Tuesday, he displayed his covered blue Royals coffee mug.

"Typically, I'll fill my cup with water," Earnest said. "Today it's filled with the sweet nectar of a World Series championship."
