'Genius' charged for DWI on San Antonio airport runway

A man faces DWI charges for allegedly celebrating his 22nd birthday by driving his car through a perimeter fence and then joy riding on a runway at San Antonio International Airport.

The San Antonio Express-News reports suspect William Ware now faces "a slew of charges" from the incident. The newspaper adds that he drove his Hyundai from a taxiway and onto runway, "narrowly missing" a parked private jet during his escapade.

Police responded to the call around 3 a.m. on Wednesday morning and pulled Ware over at the airport for questioning, the Express-News says.

According to a search warrant affidavit, Ware allegedly told officers he was "drunk as (expletive) and a genius."

The Express-News says he also told police he was on an FBI training mission, adding: "I'm going to be the best of the best."

The FBI told the newspaper that the man is not with the agency.

Police say Ware had an open container with alcoholic inside his car. The Express-News adds Ware "was described as combative and talkative with officers (and) strongly smelled of alcohol, the affidavit states. He allegedly was falling over and swaying as he spoke with police."

Airport officials declined to comment.
