El Paso airport to get $139 million upgrade

EL PASO, Texas (AP) - City leaders have approved $139 million to upgrade El Paso International Airport including an overhaul of the car rental site.

The El Paso City Council on Tuesday approved the five-year capital improvement plan.

Officials say funding sources include nearly $56 million from the Federal Aviation Administration, passenger facilities charges and airport revenue. No additional funds are required from taxpayers.

The plan includes a $45 million car rental facility to be completed by 2016.

El Paso International Airport served nearly 3 million passengers last year.
