Flight schedules returning to normal at Jacksonville
Jacksonville flight schedules are returning normal this morning, "other than (the) cancellation of some early-morning departures," officials at the Florida airport say via its Twitter feed.
Flight-tracking company FlightStats shows eight departures from Jacksonville had been canceled today (Oct. 2) as of 7:45 a.m. ET. A total of 27 Jacksonville flights (16 arrivals, 11 departures) were canceled Tuesday, according to FlightStats.
Airport officials advised passengers flying through Jacksonville today to check ahead with their airlines regarding the status of their flights.
All that comes after the airport was evacuated around 6 p.m. Tuesday, when police found a suspicious package in the terminal and another in a nearby parking garage. The airport reopened just before 11 p.m.
During a late-night news conference, Jacksonville Sheriff's Office spokesman Shannon Hartley said one of the packages "had some destructive nature" and was taken offsite. He did not elaborate.
However, CNN reported about 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday that the bomb scare may have been perpetrated as a hoax.
