Spirit Airlines to base more attendants in Atlantic City
Spirit Airlines appears to be putting down roots in Atlantic City.
The self-described "ultra low-cost carrier" is expanding the number of flight attendants it will base there, saying it plans to hire 22 additional flight attendants for its Atlantic City operation. Spirit currently has 62 attendants based in Atlantic City, according to The Press of Atlantic City.
Spirit is currently the only airline flying to Atlantic City International Airport, which has struggled to hold on to airline service during the past decade. However, the airport's fortunes received a major boost in November when United – now the nation's biggest carrier following the American-US Airways merger – announced it would launch nonstop routes to Chicago O'Hare and Houston Bush Intercontinental starting in April.
As for Spirit, it flies from Atlantic City to several destinations in Florida, Myrtle Beach, S.C., as well as seasonal destinations.
