Virgin America: Rare intra-East flights among 2 new routes

Virgin America announced two new routes for its winter schedule. Among those: a rare intra-East route for the airline, which primarily flies trans-continental routes and routes within the West.

Beginning Dec. 18, Virgin America will add seasonal nonstop service between New York JFK and Fort Lauderdale. The carrier will fly one daily round-trip flight between the airports through April 28.

On Jan. 8, Virgin American will begin seasonal nonstop flights between Boston and Las Vegas. The airline will fly four times a week on the route through April 28.

Additionally, Virgin America will boost the schedule for its existing New York JFK-Las Vegas route by adding two extra nonstop flights per week. The seasonal adjustment will give Virgin America nine weekly flights on the route starting Jan. 5 and running through April 28.

"As the colder months approach, many of our guests – in the Northeastern U.S., especially – are already planning their winter getaways, so we're pleased to offer a breath of fresh airline on these seasonal routes," John MacLeod, Virgin America's SVP of Planning and Sales, says in a statement. "This is the first time Virgin America has offered nonstop flights between Fort Lauderdale and New York as well as Las Vegas and Boston."
