Delta planes clip wings at Minneapolis/St. Paul airport
Two Delta jets clipped wings Wednesday night at the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport (MSP).
"Delta Flight 2321, a Boeing 757 with service from Minneapolis/St.Paul to Los Angeles International, was routinely moving on taxi-out when its right wing came into contact with the left wing of Delta Connection Flight 5796 operated by Compass Airlines," Delta Air Lines says in a statement to Today in the Sky.
The flight to Louisville on Delta Connection affiliate Compass Airlines was being operated on an Embraer E175 aircraft with 74 passengers on board. The 757 flight had 171 customers on board, according to Delta spokesman Morgan Durrant.
MSP airport officials tell KARE 11 TV of the Twin Cities that the aircraft were damaged in the incident. Delta acknowledged to Today in the Sky that both aircraft were out of service as of Thursday morning.
"Technicians are examining both aircraft while Delta begins an investigation into the episode," Delta said in its statement.
"Safety is always Delta's top priority," the carrier continued, adding it "is apologizing to customers for the inconvenience."
No one was injured, though passengers were delayed while other aircraft were located for the flights.
Delta says "customers on both flights have been reacommodated on other aircraft. Flight 5796 re-departed at 9:55 pm Central time. Flight 2321 re-departed at 11:07 pm Central time."
