Austrian Airlines makes Miami its 6th North American city

Austrian Airlines will begin flying to Miami this fall. The Star Alliance carrier will launch five weekly flights from its hub in Vienna on Oct. 16.

Austrian will fly Boeing 777 aircraft on the route, which will operate year-round. The airline will operate one round-trip flight every day except Tuesday and Thursday. The route is about 5,200 miles and takes about 9 hours, 40 minutes to fly, according to Austrian.

Miami becomes Austrian's sixth destination in North America, joining Chicago O'Hare, New York JFK, Newark Liberty, Toronto and Washington Dulles.

Andreas Otto, Austrian Airlines' Chief Commercial Officer, says the Miami route reflects the company's "emphasis on sunny long-haul tourist destinations in the winter season."
