Oregon's Medford airport on a record-setting roll

Oregon's Medford airport extended a remarkable run of record-setting passenger growth.

A total of 47,473 passengers flew through the Rouge Valley International Medford Airport in February, breaking the record for the month. It was the sixth consecutive month the airport has broken a record.

The Mail Tribune of Medford notes the February record came despite "two fewer daily departures than a year ago."

"When we hit the record back in September, I thought it was nice, but one month doesn't make a streak," airport director Bern Case tells the Mail Tribune. "But six months into it, it's starting to be quite a streak. Airfare prices were very good and some of that had to do with fuel costs. I think the airlines passed some of that along and built their relationships."

Alaska Airlines and United are the top two carriers at the airport. Each serves Medford with flights operated by regional affiliates. Allegiant and Delta's regional affiliates also fly to Medford.
