Alaska Air beefs up in Boise; now at 8 nonstop routes

Alaska Airlines continues to beef up its presence within the West, announcing a new route between Boise and Spokane, Wash.

Beginning Aug. 24, Alaska Air affiliate Horizon Air will fly two daily round-trip flights between the cities on 76-seat Bombardier Q400 turboprop aircraft.

"Boise-Spokane is a highly requested market for us and is particularly important for business passengers in the Pacific Northwest," John Kirby, Alaska Air's VP of capacity planning, says in a statement. "Our schedule has both morning and evening departures, which are designed to allow day trips in both directions."

With the new route, Alaska Air will now offer nonstop service to eight destinations from Boise. The others are: Lewiston, Idaho; Portland, Ore.; Sacramento; Salt Lake City; San Diego; San Jose, Calif.; and Seattle.

"We're thrilled to have Alaska Airlines expand their service at the Boise Airport", Boise Airport Director Rebecca Hupp says to KTVB Channel 7 of Boise. "Alaska will now fly to eight destinations throughout the West, the most of any carrier in Boise. They are a strong partner and we look forward to continuing our relationship in the future."

Customers flying on the new Boise-Spokane flights can earn double miles from Aug. 24 through Sept. 24. Customers must register for the offer on Alaska Air's website before flying.

Alaska Air's Spokane service is the third new route to be announced for Boise so far in 2015. Delta will add nonstop service to Seattle in May while leisure carrier Allegiant Air will begin flying to Los Angeles in June.
