Police detain 3 unruly Aer Lingus fliers on single flight to Boston

Massachusetts State police took three men into custody Tuesday for alleged drunken and unruly behavior on an Aer Lingus flight from Shannon, Ireland, to Boston.

Police spokesman David Procopio tells The Associated Press the Aer Lingus crew called police before landing, saying three unruly passengers were creating problems. The aircraft landed at Boston Logan airport around 1 p.m. ET and police took the men into "protective custody." Authorities said they were going to be held until they sobered up.

An Aer Lingus spokeswoman tells AP the men were "causing disruption" on Aer Lingus Flight 135 but that the safety of the flight was never compromised. Authorities say the men were traveling together on vacation.

Police did not detail the men's alleged unruly behavior, but passengers on the flight tell 7 News of Boston that they were drinking, smoking and singing loudly. Flight 135 passenger Ciara Sugoue tells Channel 7 that attendants tried to rein in the men, but "it didn't really help much."

John Vesper, another Flight 135 passenger, tells Channel 7 that he and others kept the men from leaving the aircraft until police arrived.

"Those guys, they just had some liquor to drink, I think, and they were just a little bit out of control," Vesper tells Channel 7.

Police said they were not going to charge the men.
