Delta and Shake Shack team up to offer cheeseburgers on flights starting in December

A new partnership between Delta Air Lines and a fast food chain will be bringing some flyers a tasty treat in the skies.
On Tuesday, Delta announced a “first-of-its-kind partnership” with Shake Shack, where the airline will serve cheeseburgers for first-class customers. The cheeseburgers will be offered on long-distance domestic flights starting Dec. 1, but only on flights from Boston.
In a press release, Delta said it expects to expand the burger service to other cities throughout the next year.
“A delicious cheeseburger is an iconic comfort food – our customers know that which is why burgers are one of the top ordered menu items we offer, and we’re thrilled to elevate the offering with Shake Shack,” said Stephanie Laster, Delta’s managing director of onboard service.
Here's what to know about the newest offering.
What does the offering look like?
According to the press release, customization options are available for customers who are getting Shake Shack cheeseburgers in the air. Toppings like tomato, lettuce and the brand's own “ShackSauce” will be available for customers.
All of the toppings will be served on the side of the cheeseburger.
Apart from the burger, Delta says it will offer a Ceasar salad on the side, as well as a dark chocolate brownie that is “reminiscent of Shack Attack flavors from some of the brand’s dessert offerings.”
Not the first collaboration of this kind
Before the recent collaboration with Shake Shack, Delta had a previous relationship with chef Danny Meyer who founded the brand in 2004. Meyer is the founder and executive chairman of Union Square Hospitality Group, which has provided meals offered on Delta flights before.
"Taking our beloved cheeseburger to new heights, Shake Shack is proud to partner with Delta as we elevate the in-flight dining and hospitality experience for travelers across the country,” Michael Kark, president of Global Licensing at Shake Shack said in the press release.
