Spirit passengers spooked by bat on flight to New Jersey
Travelers on a Spirit Airlines flight from North Carolina to New Jersey were spooked by an unwelcome passenger this week: a bat flying through the cabin.
And, no, it doesn't appear to be an emotional support animal.
Peter Scattini, a 23-year-old passenger on the budget airline's 6 a.m. flight from Charlotte to Newark Wednesday, posted a 13-second video of the incident on Twitter along with the caption: "Me, twice a year: 'll never fly Spirit again.' Me, this morning, after deciding i’d rather save 12 dollars.''
The video, which is going viral, features a couple passengers squealing "Oh my God'' and another asking if the creature is a bat.
Spirit did not respond to requests for comment.
Scattini, an actor, said that someone trapped the bat between a book and a cup and locked it in the bathroom for the rest of the flight.
"I'd assume animal control was called but I don't know what the verdict was,'' he posted in a Twitter reply.
The reaction on Twitter predictably focused on Batman, Halloween and Spirit's reputation as a discount airline, with bargain fares and fees for everything.

One post joked: "Bat storage fee was $15. Easy choice to let it fly around.''
Another: "They're probably charging you $20 for the show.''
Others said the video reminded them of an episode from "The Office,'' where Dwight catches a bat.
"When I saw the FA (flight attendant) peaking out of the lav, all I could think of was Dwight and Meredith,'' one post said.
