Watch: Pilot asks for 20 passengers to deplane after flight deemed 'too heavy'

A video circulating on social media shows that multiple passengers were asked to leave an EasyJet flight after problems with the plane being over its weight capacity.

The July 5 flight from the budget British airline was traveling from Arrecife Airport in the Canary Islands to John Lennon Airport in Liverpool, England, the Liverpool Echo reported. The flight was originally set to take off at 9:45 p.m., but left around 11:30 p.m. after a near two-hour delay.

In the video, the pilot is heard speaking over the plane's intercom.

"Because there's so many of you, it's a pretty heavy aircraft we've got today," the pilot says in the video. "That heavy aircraft combined with a pretty short runway and with the current unfavorable conditions here in Lanzarote, means the aircraft is too heavy to take off."

The pilot then asked if 20 volunteers would get off the plane headed to Liverpool. Luckily, there was an incentive: Every passenger who volunteered would receive 500 euros, or around $550 dollars.

In total, 19 passengers volunteered to leave the flight, according to the Liverpool Echo.
