Parked Delta aircraft struck by Japan Airlines plane while it was taxiing, Seattle airport says
Officials responded to an apparent collision between two airplanes at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Wednesday morning, the airport announced.
The collision involving a taxiing Japan Airlines plane and a parked Delta Air Lines plane happened at approximately 10 a.m. local time, according to the airport's post on X.
Officials said no injuries have been reported after the taxiing Japan Airlines aircraft appeared to hit the tail of the parked Delta plane between the airport's S concourse and the south maintenance hangars.
The airport said it was working to safely deplane passengers to bring them to the terminal. For all other flights, officials say there has been a minimal impact on operations due to the crash.
"We sincerely apologize to all involved for any inconvenience. The detailed cause and circumstances are currently under investigation," Japan Airlines said to Paste BN in a statement.
Incident comes after crashes in Philadelphia and DC area
The incident in Seattle comes amid heightened concerns over air travel in the U.S. after high-profile plane crashes in Philadelphia and near Washington, D.C. left more than 70 people dead.
On Tuesday, officials said they recovered all 67 victims in last week's devastating plane and helicopter crash outside the nation's capital, confirming they have identified 66 bodies, as crews worked to remove wreckage from the Potomac River.
Then on Friday, a medical transport plane crashed in a residential area of Northeast Philadelphia leaving six people on the plane and one person on the ground dead.
Delta Air Lines was not immediately available for comment on Wednesday.
