Holland America is latest cruise line to drop Turkey

Add Holland America to the list of cruise lines that have canceled calls in Turkey for the rest of the year.

The Seattle-based company says six Mediterranean voyages scheduled to take place in September and October no longer will include stops in the country.

Holland America was one of the only cruise lines to keep 2016 calls in Turkey on its schedule following a series of terrorist attacks earlier this year. The country also recently experienced a violent coup attempt.

Crystal Cruises, Disney Cruise Line, Costa Cruises, MSC Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Windstar Cruises and Oceania Cruises all had previously canceled visits to Turkey for 2016. Norwegian, Regent and Oceania also have dropped calls in Turkey for 2017.

In a statement sent to Paste BN, Holland America said passengers on the affected sailings who already had booked and paid for shore excursions in Turkey would receive refunds.

"We share in our guests’ disappointment when unexpected events occur which require us to adjust our published itineraries, and we appreciate their understanding that the safety of our guests and crew is our top priority," the statement said.
