New Celebrity Cruises ship to spend first summer in Mediterranean
The first new ship from Celebrity Cruises in more than five years will spend its maiden summer season in the Mediterranean.
Celebrity on Tuesday revealed that the 2,900-passenger Celebrity Edge would operate voyages out of Barcelona, Spain and Civitavecchia, Italy (the port for Rome) in 2019 from the middle of May through September.
The sailings will range from seven to 11 nights and feature stops in a diverse array of ports in both the Western and Eastern Mediterranean.
The trips include an 11-night voyage out of Rome to the Greek Islands that features Celebrity's first stop at the Greek seaport town of Nauplion. The voyage also will include stops at the Greek Islands of Santorini and Mykonos as well as visits to Katakolon, Greece and Piraeus, Greece, the port for Athens. Stops in Italy and Malta also are on the itinerary.

Edge will be one of five Celebrity ships heading to Europe for the summer of 2019. The 2,170-passenger Celebrity Infinity will return to Europe for the first time since 2014, operating seven- to 12-night Mediterranean itineraries out of Venice, Italy and Civitavecchia. Also sailing in the Mediterranean out of Venice, Barcelona and Civitavecchia will be the 2,038-passenger Celebrity Constellation.
Two other Celebrity vessels, the 3,046-passenger Celebrity Reflection and 2,886-passenger Celebrity Silhouette, will operate across Northern Europe.
Debuting in late 2018, Edge initially will sail to the Caribbean out of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
