Cruise smackdown: Regal Princess vs. Norwegian Getaway
Which cruise line has the hottest new ship at sea? Readers, we want to hear what you have to say!
In this, the fourth of our new series of Cruise Ship Smackdowns, we're pitting Princess Cruises' newest vessel, Regal Princess, against Norwegian Cruise Line's latest ship, Norwegian Getaway.
Click through the photo tours of the two vessels in the carousels above and below, then go the comment area to tell us: Which one would you book -- and why?
Unveiled in May 2014 and January 2014, respectively, the two ships are among the largest at sea and boast all the trappings of a major megaresort, from deck-top fun zones with gee-whiz attractions to multiple restaurants and nightspots. Still, as you can see in the photo tours, each has its own distinct vibe.
Sailing in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean, the 3,560-passenger Regal Princess is home to a cantilevered, glass-enclosed walkway over the ocean called the SeaWalk; an expanded pool deck that transforms at night into a stage for an elaborate water and light show; and a working television studio/performance venue that seats 280 people. The ship also has a greatly expanded version of the line's signature Piazza, a central atrium area with food outlets and entertainment.
Sailing seven-night voyages to the Caribbean out of Miami, the 4,028-passenger Getaway offers an unusually wide range of eateries, a Norwegian hallmark, including several indoor/outdoor outlets along an innovative, restaurant-lined boardwalk. The ship also has a water park with five water slides, large production shows including Broadway's Legally Blonde; a giant, two-deck spa; and a private "ship-within-a-ship" suite area.
