Got talent? Try out for 'The Voice' at sea
Princess Cruises is bringing the hit NBC TV show "The Voice" to the high seas with a new shipboard talent competition.
Just like on the show, there will be "blind auditions," with passenger competitors taking the stage to show off their singing chops, hoping they can convince coaches to turn their chairs.
“Guests will feel like they are part of the globally popular TV show performing on a high tech set almost identical to the hit show, including rotating red chairs and a live Princess band with backup singers," said Adrian Fischer, vice president, entertainment for Princess Cruises. "We're excited to discover and foster undiscovered talent and offer guests a whole new way to express their love of music and performing."
The Voice of the Ocean, open to passengers age 16 and up, includes karaoke tryout sessions at the beginning of each cruise. Fellow guests and cruise staff decide who moves on. Selected singers will be assigned a mentor (a Princess musical entertainer or vocalist) and will rehearse with the Princess Band and backup singers.
Up to nine contestants will perform before an audience at The Voice of the Ocean Live Show, hosted by the cruise director, on the last night of the cruise.
Three team coaches – which may include the hotel manager or even the captain – will listen to, but not see the performers and decide whether or not to turn their "I Want You" chairs to choose singers for their team. The coaches will each pick a finalist and the audience will vote on a winner – for the title of The Voice of the Ocean.
The vocal competition will debut onboard the Regal Princess in October, followed by Royal Princess and Caribbean Princess in November. Eight additional ships will roll out the program between January and May 2016.
