Viking re-installs shower doors on Viking Star due to shattering issue

Viking Cruises said it has re-installed the glass panels in virtually all of the showers on the Viking Star after incidents in which they shattered without provocation.

One woman reported injuries from glass shards when the shower glass exploded on her first night of a Baltic cruise in July. A spokesman for Viking said that it determined that the incidents were “isolated” and were related to the installation process of the glass.

Best known for its river cruises, Viking took delivery of Viking Star, its first ocean-going ship, from Italy’s Fincantieri shipyard in March. Viking said that after consulting with Fincantieri and its experts, it was decided that the panels would be reinstalled, and that process has been completed on nearly all of the staterooms on the 930-passenger ship.

The Viking spokesman said safety “is always our top priority. We regret that some of our guests experienced this situation,” he said.
