Delta plans New York JFK-Rio de Janeiro non-stops


Delta Air Lines will add new service to Brazil, launching non-stop service from its hub New York JFK hub to Rio de Janeiro.

The route would begin Dec. 21, pending regulatory approval, and would be operated with Boeing 767-300 aircraft.

In announcing the service, Delta touted is partnership with Brazilian carrier GOL, saying customers would be able to connect onward to 23 additional destinations via that airline.

“It is exciting to have the opportunity to offer a daily direct flight from Rio de Janeiro to our second-largest international hub at New York-JFK,” Luciano Macagno, Delta’s Director-Brazil, says in a statement. “Delta’s continued route expansions demonstrate our commitment to the Brazilian market and the strength of our alliance with our Brazilian partner, GOL.”

From New York JFK, Delta also flies to Sao Paulo. And to Rio de Janiero, Delta also serves the city from its busiest hub in Atlanta.
