Key West flights to resume Wednesday after 12-day shutdown

Commercial airline flights were set to resume Wednesday at Florida’s Key West Airport for the first time in 12 days.

The small airport halted all flights ahead of Hurricane Irma and was damaged as the storm raked the Keys before moving up the west coast of Florida. The Key West airport had remained closed since.

Now, a “limited schedule” was set to resume there Wednesday. Officials told The Miami Herald travelers should expect reduced operations for several days as the airport works to get back up to speed.

“I’m very proud of the hard work and dedication that the airport maintenance employees have shown over the course of this trying time,” Monroe County Airports Director Donald DeGraw said in a statement to the Herald. “We are excited to start commercial service and serve our valued customers.”
