A FedEx jet skidded off the runway after apparent gear failure

A FedEx plane skidded off the runway in Chattanooga Wednesday night after an apparent landing gear failure.

In a series of social media posts, the Chattanooga Fire Department said the Boeing 757 had three people onboard and skidded into a buffer zone at the end of the runway.

FedEx confirmed the incident in a statement to Paste BN.

Authorities in Chattanooga, Tennessee, are investigating after a landing gear on a FedEx plane failed, causing it to skid off of the runway.

“FedEx Express Flight 1376 from Chattanooga to Memphis experienced an issue just after takeoff on Wednesday evening. Our crew is safe and any additional questions should be referred to the NTSB,” the company said.

The incident is under investigation.

FedEx was involved in a high-profile safety incident earlier this year when one of its jets was cleared to land on the same runway where a Southwest Airlines plane was preparing to take off at Austin Bergstrom International Airport.

The two aircraft came within 100 feet of colliding but the FedEx pilot aborted the landing and circled back.
