Plane passenger hilariously caught on camera trying to snoop on guy's laptop

There's no shortage of ways for the other passengers on a plane to annoy you. They can remove their shoes and socks immediately after they take their seats. They can buy an oversized tuna sandwich and unwrap it when the flight reaches cruising altitude. Or they can lean in your direction, trying to read everything on your computer screen.

You can't do anything if you're stuck beside Mr. Tuna Helper for six hours, but musician James Grande had a solution for the over-the-shoulder snoop — he turned on his computer's camera. Grande, a musician for Carnival Cruise Lines, was typing to friends on Facebook, trying to arrange a ride from the airport, when he noticed that the man sitting beside him was very obviously reading along. Grande busted him several times, and the man would just stare out the window, possibly oblivious to the fact that it was pitch black outside. "It was so ridiculous, I had to catch it on film," Grande wrote on YouTube.

So he did. He turned on his Mac's Photo Booth app and recorded the man's blatant attempts to read his screen – and even caught him PUTTING HIS GLASSES ON so he could get a clearer view. At the end of the clip (and, yeesh, let's hope it was near the end of the flight), Grande showed the man that he'd been busted and they both laughed about it. Of course, that was before Grande's video went viral.

If you don't want to find yourself in Grande's position (or if you're not inclined to find it as hilarious if your seatmate's mouth moves as he's reading all of your words), the best option is to buy a privacy screen for your laptop. I have one of 3M's removable privacy filters for both my laptop and my tablet and they make the screens unreadable if you're not staring directly at the device. The only downside is that they do significantly decrease the brightness levels of the screen, but not so much that it's difficult to read. That's the way to go, though, whether you're sending work-related emails or just don't want everyone else to know that you're watching reruns of Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman.

You could also build your own privacy screen. Either way, they can't help you with the bare feet in 16F.
