Delta Flight Attendant gets doused in sewage and sues

Flight attendants prepare for almost every conceivable danger or challenge in their job, but nothing could ready 18-year Delta flight attendant Tina Brock for what happened in August 2012.

The nightmare began in the morning, as Brock was sleeping on a recliner in the employee layover lounge, along with other colleagues. Unfortunately, she chose the worst spot possible, directly under an exposed sewage pipe not just on its last leg, but last toe.

Brock and colleagues awoke to the sounds of the bursting pipe and then watched, horror-spoof-style, a tide of feces and urine gush down as the ceiling gave way. Brock received the brunt of the gagging mix, dousing her from head to toe. To make matters worse, the only escape was on the other side of leak, forcing the attendants to take refuge in a closet as sewage rose to one-foot deep on the floor.

The torrent eventually subsided and the attendants were able to escape, but the trauma was enough to send Brock into fits of severe anxiety — including the sensation that bugs were eating away at her skin. Eventually, it caused her to quit her job (although she’s still officially employed by Delta) and get counseling and medical attention, enough to earn a diagnosis of PTSD.

Now Brock is taking her suffering to Atlanta Airlines Terminal Corporation, who was in charge of maintenance in that area of the airport. In a lawsuit, she is asking for compensation for injury, which includes not being able to have sex with her husband (how convenient).
