Starwood's new global promotion sweetens the deal for weekend trips

Starwood is promoting summer travel by focusing exclusively on the weekends. While demand for full vacations and business travel has kept U.S. occupancy rates in record territory, there's always room to convince a weary Road Warrior to take a weekend when a week seems impossible. So Starwood has launched a promotion directly tied to encouraging liberation of summertime weekends.

The perks on offer include 35% off a weekend breakfast for two at participating hotels in North/Latin America and a more compelling 1,000 bonus points for any 2+ night stay that includes a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. The points offer is valid at Starwood's 1200+ hotels and resorts and will be good until August 31st.

The company has even built a complete website, its Weekend Channel, that offers tips, inspiration, and custom content on places to go. This includes expert content on healthy living, curated lists from locals and even a video explaining the history of the weekend. In announcing the weekend push, Starwood's Lori Strasberg points to the fact that many of us work even on the weekends:

Nearly 30 percent of Americans report working during the weekends. It’s time to take back the weekend, and the SPG Weekend Channel inspires our members by providing everything they need to build their ultimate weekend.

The overall idea is that "the end of your week is the beginning of your next adventure."
