Uber's new all-glass headquarters in SF suggests complete transparency — and its high valuation
Uber is now valued at over $40 billion, making it the most valuable private company on earth after Xiaomi. The company is using some of its copious cash reserves and revenues to build a showpiece headquarters in the Mission Bay neighborhood of San Francisco.
The company has signed a 15-year lease on an area that will eventually include 423,000 square foot of space across several buildings that will house nearly 3,000 employees. The building, which is designed in partnership with firms SHoP and Studio O+A, is slated to open in 2016 or 2017.
In a statement on the project, SHoP Architects said:
At a time when many tech companies are creating campuses far from city centres, Uber has made a commitment in its new home to support the continued vitality of the urban environment and to help complete a thriving mixed‐use neighbourhood.
Here's how the building will look when completed.
