Japan Airlines pilot suspended after bringing flight attendant into cockpit
A Japan Airlines pilot has been suspended for violating airline policy by bringing a stewardess into the cockpit during a flight.
The incident occurred on June 7 during a flight from northern Japan to Osaka, and the pilot had the flight attendant sit in the co-pilot's seat, where he took a picture of her with his smartphone once the plane had reached 10,000 feet. The actual co-pilot had stepped out to use the bathroom, leaving only the one pilot in the cockpit.
It's unclear whether the flight attendant was following procedure by being in the cockpit while the co-pilot used the restroom (standard procedure on some airlines). Growing scrutiny over cockpit safety procedures after the Germanwings tragedy has led many airlines to be swifter to punish any violation that could impact aircraft safety.
Meanwhile, this isn't the only example of cockpit shenanigans recently — the other day there was an incident involving a Ryanair pilot talking a selfie in a tinfoil hat, and last month an incident involving a passenger sitting in a Cathay Pacific cockpit for the duration of the flight. It would seem that anyone invited into the cockpit during flight would either A) realize that this isn't a good idea or B) just not post anything to social media marking the occasion.Though if they're not smart enough, we're certain to discover more fodder for the "cockpit selfie" file.
