You might not have $250k to go to space, but now you can visit Spaceport America for $44.99

Rocketing up to space is the ultimate dream of many road warriors. Of course there are many road blocks to making this a reality. While we may dream of space with our head in the clouds, the stratospheric $250,000 price tag brings most of us lowly travel peasants back down to earth. As a small consolation, Virgin Galactic is opening up a big piece of the space experience to the public: Spaceport America. For only $44.99 with an online advance purchase, any aspiring space traveler can get a taste of the facility tucked away in the desert of New Mexico.

The 4-hour tour starts at an outpost in Truth and Consequences, New Mexico, where various souvenirs are on offer before boarding buses loaded with multimedia content on the history of the surrounding lands. Upon arriving at Spaceport America, the tour continues around the facility with several interactive exhibits of the company's technology. For the adventurous, there's also a G Shock Trainer machine that will spin you around in all directions to simulate the immense pressures of rocket life. Photo ops include the iconic Gateway to Space terminal, the swooping hangar that spaceships will soon depart from.

The space travel company is clever enough to realize that hooking us even further on the dream of space travel is key to keeping the pipeline full — especially as the price drops over time to be more affordable to travelers. "Affordable" is of course a moving target, as even a fare that settles around $10,000 would be quite a stretch for the majority of frequent travelers.

In case you needed a visual, the brand has produced this pumped-up video that glorifies the experience — and, even if it's a bit over-the-top, we'll be swinging by on our next trip through the southwest.
