Forget stealing towels — now you can furnish your home just like a hotel

Sticky-fingered guests have been an age-old problem for hotels, but now there is less of an excuse for people to stuff their luggage full of towels, robes, and pillowcases.

Hotel companies have found a way to cash in even when you’re at home by making their most popular in-room products available online. It goes beyond just mattress toppers and duvets — you can now buy everything from their toiletries and throw pillows to custom furniture.

It all began when Westin Hotels launched its Heavenly Bed back in 1999. Its duvet-topped, cloud-like mattress was crisp and pristine in its stark white glory. The hotel chain saw a boost in bookings following the bed’s rollout, confirming for lodging companies that people will spend more to guarantee a good night’s sleep. The chain even put the bedding up for sale, and it went off like Gangbusters.

These days, it seems that every major chain has its own signature bedding package. Sheraton has its Sweet Sleeper bed; Four Seasons rolled out its own bed with three types of mattress toppers guests can customize to their pressure preference; and Hyatt prides itself on the Grand Bed being available at Grand Hyatt, Park Hyatt, and Hyatt Regency properties.

Hyatt at Home will sell you the bed online, as well as its June Jacobs or Kenet MD toiletries, its chrome desk lamps, and even a pair of slippers (which most hotels admit you can take). Hilton To Home will sell you pillows (new, of course), exclusive alarm clock, and even a Hilton blend of coffee.

The Store for W Hotels has mattress toppers and a signature room fragrance used only in W Hotels, just in case you wanted your living room to smell like the lobby of the W Times Square. Westin still sells its Heavenly Bed and linens, but also has developed a version of the bed for dogs.

Too bad there’s no option to purchase housekeeping services to make those hotel beds at home.
