This is how long it takes for your points to expire for major U.S. hotel programs

Properly tracking your airline miles and hotel points can be a nightmare to all the Type-B people out there, but it's not nearly as painful as letting your points expire altogether and losing out on that free night at the St. Regis Bora Bora you've been saving up for for the last two years. Unfortunately, similar to airline miles, hotel points also tend to have expiration dates (though there are tricks and so-called qualifying activities to keep your points from expiring), but hotel loyalty programs are a bit more consistent across the industry when compared to airlines. In hotel loyalty land, there are pretty much two types of programs: those that give you 12 months, and those that offer you 24. Still, some inconsistencies do arise, so we made this little cheat sheet to help you keep tabs on how long you have until your points disappear:

Best Western Rewards: Never. One of the rare chains where points never expire. At least for residents of the Americas, Asia, and South Africa.

Choice Privilege: Two years and change.  Points expire on December 31st of the year two years after activity ceased.

Club Carlson Gold Points:24 months. 

Hyatt Gold Passport: 12 months. 

Hilton HHonors: 12 months. 

IHG Rewards Club: 12 months.  Recently changed in April 2015, points now expire after 12 months instead of 24.

Le Club Accorhotels: 12 months. 

Marriott Rewards:24 months. Marriott points used to have no expiration date, but starting February 2016, points will expire after 24 months of inactivity.

Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG): 12 months.
