Here's what NYC's gorgeous new LaGuardia Airport will look like
New Yorkers breathed a collective sigh of relief yesterday when Governor Andrew Cuomo announced a brand new LaGuardia Airport, with a little help from Vice President Joe Biden.
The new airport is to be a complete teardown of the existing, aged terminals and docks, with a sleek new structure built on a new foundation 600 feet closer to the Grand Central Parkway, the highway serving the airport. The slight change in location will provide the second coming of LaGuardia with an additional 2 miles of queuing lanes for aircraft, without altering the existing runways.
The two hosts traded jocular barbs during their press conference, with Cuomo reminding the audience that Biden had once compared landing at the airport to arriving in a third world country.
Renderings of the new airport, scheduled to partially open in 2019, show a sleek, unified structure, a vast departure from the cobbled array of existing terminals. A high-speed ferry terminal, hotel on premises, and shopping and dining options replace the almost comical Dunkin Donuts, pizzeria and hamburger stand serving much of the existing airport.
Delta too has committed to updating their terminal in the new LaGuardia with state of the art technologies and services for their customers.
One thing is for certain; 2019 can't arrive quickly enough.
