Don't toss that boarding pass — it can get you free tours and wine tastings in these cities

Many frequent fliers want little more than a quiet place to relax on a layover (outdoor lounge, anyone?). Luckily, if you're the kind of person who get antsy during an 8-hour layover, airports have stepped up their game in the last few years, and not amenities like spas, swimming pools and movie theaters are not out of the question. If that's not enough for you, one little known secret is that your airline/airport choice could lead you to free tours, museum passes or even wine tastings during your travel. Try connecting through one of these airports on your journey, and that layover could seem pretty painless:

Even if you choose to venture out on your own, choosing certain airlines can translate to big savings. Carriers like Singapore Airlines, Silkair, Thai Airways, Korean Air, Asiana, Air Asia, Air Malta, and Tigerair provide discounts to attractions, hotels, and shopping, so you can create your own tour. Alaska Airlines will give you discounts on ski passes or wine tastings for presenting their ticket stubs, and will even let you check your wine purchases as luggage free of charge. Remember to always save your boarding pass, just in case.
