Aging rockstar flies antiquated WWI plane, forced to make emergency landing

The prospect of flying an ancient Fokker triplane would send most of us running for the hills, but Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson flies one regularly, undaunted. While you may know Mr. Dickinson as the piercing-voiced, devil-horn-throwing heavy metal singer, he is also an experienced pilot with more than 20 years of flying under his codpiece. Mr. Dickinson's prized vintage aircraft, the Fokker triplane, much like the one pictured above, is similar to the one the Red Barron flew in WWI.

Recently, while, ahem, "Aces High" in the air in this antiquated plane, he found himself dangerously low on fuel and unable to reach his destination.

Savvy under pressure, Dickinson made a call for an emergency landing at Royal Air Force airfield RAF Halton near Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England. According to the Telegraph, The folks at RAF Halton were impressed with his good judgment and were on the scene when he safely landed his vintage plane. It seems Bruce's Number (of the Beast) was not up quite yet.

As it turns out, Dickinson is not only a heavy metal icon, but he also runs an aircraft maintenance business near Cardiff airport. A long-time pilot, he also flew the Boeing 757 that took Iron Maiden on its 2008-09 world tour. Out of respect, I bang my head in your direction, Mr. Dickinson.
