Airbnb offering an overnight stay at Fenway Park in a room that might have Boston's best view
The Boston Red Sox are currently in last place in their division and have the worst winning percentage in the entire American League, so even the most faithful fans could be forgiven if they dozed off during a game. But Airbnb is making the experience of sleeping at Fenway Park much more enjoyable, even if watching the Sox isn't. The vacation rental site is giving one lucky winner the opportunity to stay overnight in an executive suite at the baseball stadium, sleeping on a king sized bed with a Green Monster pillow, looking out the window at the field and wondering why that 2013 World Series win seems like it's a thousand years away.
The winner of the essay contest (which asks participants to explain why spending a night at Fenway would be a dream come true) will be greeted by possibly the only Airbnb host who has three World Series rings. Former pitcher Curt Schilling – the man with history's most famous sock – will welcome his overnight guest at the start of what sounds like a wicked one-night stay. After playing catch with Schilling, the winner will stand on the field for the National Anthem before that night's game, watch the first inning from inside the stadium's iconic Green Monster and meet Hall of Fame candidate Luis Tiant, in addition to a long list of other perks.
According to the Airbnb description:
First opened on April 20th, 1912, the oldest ballpark in baseball has never hosted a fan sleepover until now. But don’t let that fool you: your suite for the night will be fully designed to recapture over a hundred years of vintage Fenway moments. After your celebration dinner on the right-field deck, you’re free to watch some post-game clips or relax in your 37,000-seat home.
The winner will be accommodated for the night of September 2, an evening that includes dugout box seats to watch Boston play the New York Yankees. The Yankees are currently only half a game behind the AL East leaders, so if a Sox superfan has to cry him- or herself to sleep, at least they'll be doing it in a room with a hell of a view.
