LaGuardia is America's worst airport when it comes to flight delays
What does a broken watch have in common with a flight arriving at LaGuardia Airport? There's a good chance that neither one of them will be on time. According to the latest statistics from the U.S. Department of Transportation, we now have another real reason to hate America's most embarrassing airport. LaGuardia had the worst on-time statistics of any of the country's major airports, as only a sad 68% of arriving and departing flights reported having zero delays. Less than 66% of incoming flights were on time and 70% of flights left on time, an overall performance decrease of 3% since the same time period last year.
According to the New York Post, who first reported the statistics, this is the first time that LaGuardia has ranked dead last in overall delays. As for the other airports in the New York area, 73% of flights to and from John F. Kennedy Airport are on time and Newark Liberty International Airport has an on-time performance of almost 74%, improving from just under 66% during the same time period (January 1 through June 30) last year.
The Bureau of Transportation's statistics from January 1 through June 30 say that just under 78% of flights were on time to and from 29 major U.S. airports (way to drag everyone else down, LaGuardia). Joe Sitt, the chairman of airport advocacy group Global Gateway Alliance told the Post "Nothing matters more to passengers than on-time flights."
