A record 67 firearms were discovered by TSA during week of 9/11
The TSA Blog, truly The Giving Tree of the internet, regretfully reports that a record number of travelers spent the week of September 11th solemnly reflecting, wearing patriotic flag t-shirts, and...attempting to sneak weapons into the airport?
TSA agents discovered a whopping 67 firearms tucked within carry-on bags at our nation's airports between September 6th and 12th of this year. And it gets worse. 56 of those firearms were loaded! And 26 had a round chambered, ready to be fired. The awfully timed, record-breaking week beats the previous record holder from May 2013.
In addition to the dozens of loaded guns intercepted by agents, passengers also attempted to bring 16 ounces of explosive black powder, various throwing stars, knives, 19 stun guns, and several rounds of ammunition through airport security. Ammunition, TSA would like to point out, is permissible in your checked bags, but never in your carry-on luggage. The TSA blog waves its finger at us:
"Sure, it’s great to share the things that our officers are finding, but at the same time, each time we find a dangerous item, the line is slowed down and a passenger that likely had no ill intent ends up with a citation or in some cases is even arrested. The passenger can face a penalty as high as $11,000. This is a friendly reminder to please leave these items at home."
Listen people, despite what the questionable lawmakers of Texas may tell you, bringing loaded weapons into an airport is never a good idea, especially during a time of national mourning and heightened anxiety about flying. Set an alert on your smartphone to leave your gun at home, tie a piece of twine around your trigger finger, or look yourself in the mirror and say aloud that it is OK to not pack heat 24/7/365. Do whatever it takes to keep the TSA record stuck here, in this crazy month, for all time. This is one record we don't need to break.
